Why We Love Plaistow, London

Plaistow is a popular place to live due to the continued regeneration of the East of London since the Olympic games, and it is so well connected to Central London and other great places to visit. You can reach Oxford Circus, Euston or Westminster within half an hour, plus Stratford and Hackney are only a few minutes away. Plus, the tube station in Plaistow is pleasant and never overly busy.

Another great thing about Plaistow is that it is a low-key, quiet residential area which is a nice change to the hustle and bustle of the city. You can avoid the crowds and shop for everything you need in nearby Stratford, which has all the shops you can imagine, including the new Westfield Shopping Centre, plus the opportunity to take in the latest blockbuster movie or dine out in a selection of restaurants.

Nearby Upton Park has an excellent big market with food stalls close to the tube station, and if you love bike riding, don’t forget the Greenway – a cycleway going from Plaistow all the way to Victoria Park in Hackney!

Green parks on the doorstep

A great place to take the kids to let off some steam and have a run around is the 9.5-acre Plaistow Park, but if you want to explore a little further, just ten minutes walk away is West Ham Park, which is a big and beautiful park ideal for exploring and a family picnic.

There is also the 10-acre Memorial Recreational Ground with a games area, play area and a rugby field, so there is plenty of green places to relax and unwind after a busy week of work in the city.

There are several other small parks in the area, but it is also easy to drive from for a family day out. Just a short hop in the car on the A13, and you’re out in the deep countryside.

A few cafes have opened up around town, and there are plenty of pubs to visit. You can also dine out in some great independent restaurants offering different cuisines. There are some lovely parks and green spaces throughout the area and excellent schools if you are moving here and considering starting a family.

Plaistow points of interest

You will find the Newham Leisure Centre, Balaam Street Leisure Centre and Newham University Hospital in Plaistow. Newham Sixth Form College’s main campus is also located in the southeast, near the hospital.

Newham Leisure Centre is also home to the Terence McMillan Stadium, close to the hospital and the college. The stadium is a track and field base home to running clubs and local football teams.

The 59 Club, possibly the largest motorcycle club in the world and a registered charity, is now based in Plaistow and located in the Swift Centre in Barking Road.

The best places to eat in Plaistow
