Everyday Dental Tips for the Family

It’s crucial to keep your family’s teeth and gums healthy!

Oral disease can cause pain and discomfort and affect your ability to eat and your self-confidence. In addition, treatment for oral health issues can sometimes be difficult and costly.

Additionally, there is proof that oral health issues can interact with and worsen other illnesses, including heart disease.

To help maintain strong, healthy gums and teeth for the rest of your life, follow the straightforward advice below.

MAINTAIN A HEALTHY DIET.

A diet composed of a variety of wholesome meals must be balanced in order to maintain both your general health and the condition of your teeth.

Every day, eat a variety of foods from the five dietary groups: dairy, lean meat, fish, eggs, grains, and vegetables.

Cheese, milk, and yoghurt are examples of dairy products that can strengthen teeth and reduce the incidence of dental cavities.

Simple milk is preferable to flavoured milk with sugar added.

REDUCE ACIDIC DRINKS

Avoid acidic meals and beverages, including fruit juice, sports drinks, soft drinks, and wine, since they can erode your teeth (dissolving of teeth).

Drinking an acidic beverage should be followed shortly by rinsing with milk or plain water to neutralize the acid.

After consuming an acidic beverage, wait 30 minutes before brushing your teeth.

The cheapest and healthiest beverage to keep your teeth strong is always tap water.

BRUSH TWICE A DAY

How frequently you brush your teeth affects the condition of your gums and teeth.

Always use a soft toothbrush because those with harder bristles run the risk of permanently damaging your teeth and gums.

To ensure you don’t miss any regions, work in a moderate circular motion while taking a systematic approach.

Always use fluoride-containing toothpaste (for children under six years old, use a special low-fluoride children’s toothpaste).

Time yourself while brushing to determine how long you’re taking; a thorough brushing should take at least two minutes.

To keep the toothpaste barrier in your mouth for a longer period of time, spit it out but do not rinse.

FLOSS ONCE A DAY

Only around 60% of the tooth surfaces are well-cleaned by rigorous brushing.

Only flossing will effectively clean the remaining places.

Daily flossing is crucial to preventing gum disease from developing and tooth rot from forming between your teeth (loss of bone due to gum inflammation).

Some people might benefit from using additional cleaning tools, like interproximal brushes, to clean in between their teeth.

HAVE REGULAR DENTAL CHECKUPS

Maintaining a healthy mouth requires periodic checkups and dental cleaning Singapore.

Every thorough examination will include, among other things, the detection of caries, periodontal (gum) disease, evaluation for infection or other diseases, and oral cancer screening.

Regular checkups enable the early identification of dental issues, enabling their treatment before they become a larger (and frequently more expensive) problem. This is especially true if you have had other procedures done such as crown teeth.

Bringing your kids in for routine checkups is also the best method to prevent them from growing fear of the dentist because it will prevent them from needing an emergency appointment when they are in pain and need treatment right away on their first visit!

At a routine checkup, a dentist will typically also perform a professional scale and clean to remove any calculus (tartar) buildup, which is crucial for maintaining healthy gums.

To identify and diagnose dental issues, X-rays should be obtained on a regular basis as part of a normal examination.

QUIT SMOKING

Smoking can have a significant impact on someone’s oral health.

It is a significant risk factor for periodontal disease (gum disease).

The likelihood that periodontal disease will be successfully treated may also decline if you keep smoking.

Oral cancer risk is also known to rise with smoking.

Additionally, it can discolour your teeth and make your breath smell terrible.

If you want to stop smoking, talk to your dentist about your options and available tools to make it happen.
